New Year New blog!

Math Stations

Here is a math station that we do to help us learn our doubles.

Computers are one of our favorite math station rotations!

We continue to review number sense, addition, and subtraction.

Science

In science we have been studying plants.  Here is an experiment we did to see how water travels through the plant stem.

Here is a picture showing how the colored water traveled up the tubes in the celery. The students loved cutting open the celery stalk to see the results.

Busy at work investigating and              recording!

Here is a student journal showing our experiment.  On the left is the illustration of the two different jars of colored water we placed the celery stalks into. On the right is the illustration which shows the results. What great scientist we are becoming!

Here is one student's illustration of the inside of the celery stalk. What great details!

A few memories from 2011

During Thanksgiving we wrote what we were thankful for......

                           December Holidays

In Social Studies we studied December holidays. Christmas in United States

Kwanzaa in Africa

Las Posadas in Mexico

We had a Pajama Party!

Here we are exchanging gifts with all of our friends.

And of course, we loved the visit from Santa!
During Guided Reading, this group read the book "How to Make Salsa".  After carefully reading the book and following the recipe, they prepared homemade salsa for our class.  It was unanimous that they are good cooks!
